How will patients receive their test results?
Depending on what Ash product you are using, results will either be pushed directly through an API integration or populate directly in your portal.
For patient portal clients, patients will receive an automated email when their results are ready and results will be displayed via individual result cards, as shown in the Ash demo. Language for these results cards, including next steps or how to access follow-up care, can be configured as part of the branded portal set up.
API clients will receive raw results, with reference ranges and units included, along with a full pdf from the lab. For clients using a provider or client portal, a full pdf from the lab will populate in your portal account. In both cases, clients are responsible for transmitting these results to patients, along with interpretation, including next steps and follow-up care.
What if results are not populating in the portal?
If you believe results have been released by the lab but are not populating in the portal, please reach out to clientsuccess@poweredbyash.com for assistance.
Will patients see the pdf from the lab?
Ash only passes result pdfs to clients, since they can include extraneous information and be difficult to interpret. Whether these are passed directly to your patients, or parsed to create a branded pdf, is up to you.
Does Ash flag results as abnormal or outside the reference range?
All abnormal results are marked as such in our patient portal. Reference ranges will be based on those set by the lab, since it is a lab developed test.
For clients utilizing an API integration or client / provider portal, raw results will not be marked as abnormal. Result pdfs from the lab will mark any results that are outside of the reference range provided, but in both instance, interpretation of such results should be done by an appropriate medical professional.
How will a physician know to follow up on abnormal or critical results?
Most clients do not utilize Ash physician review for results review, in which case clients are responsible for managing any and all required follow-up or interpretation. For client that do utilize Ash physician review to follow-up in the case of abnormal or critical result, Ash will work directly with your medical team to determine the appropriate range for physician follow-up, depending on your specific patient population.
What do you do with these raw results?
Ash does not interpret any results provided by the lab. We simply provide the raw outputs and it is up to each of our partners, and their medical advisor teams, to interpret and effectively communicate results, their implications and appropriate follow-up care.
What happens if there is a positive or reactive result for an STI screening or other infectious disease?
For our patient portal clients, alerts can be configured for all positive, reactive or inconclusive infectious disease results to facilitate appropriate follow-up and linkage to care. Client utilizing our API integration or provider / client portal are responsible for capturing and relaying and positive or reactive results.
All Ash labs are responsible for reporting infectious disease result in accordance with state-specific mandate. More information on this can be found in the “Compliance & Regulation” section.
What happens if the lab cannot process an individual test in the panel?
If the lab cannot process in individual test, either due to an issue with the sample or insufficient specimen quantity, the result for that specific test will be release as “test-not-performed” or “quantity-not-sufficient,” if applicable. These results will be released as part of the result-ready notification or update and be reflected on the result pdf. As such, these orders will display a result-ready, not a kit-rejected, status since some of the tests in the panel were able to be processed normally.
